Broad Spectrum Analysis: According to the FDA, broad spectrum sunscreens protect against UVA and UVB rays, which are types of ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Boots Star Rating : Recognized in the UK, and also known as Boots Star Rating system, measures the UV transmittance through a sunscreen film. PMMA plates are used as a substrate for measurement. The ratio between the mean UVA and UVB absorbance measured before and after irradiation of the sunscreen products is calculated. Determination of Critical Wavelength : The FDA considers a sunscreen to be broad spectrum if it has a critical wavelength of 370 nm or higher. Water Resistance : To compare the SPF for a sunscreen product after a period of immersion in water with the original, static SPF of the product determined according to the International SPF Test Method.
