Capacity You Can Trust: Storage Tank Calibration with International Standards at FARE Labs

The calibration of Flow Cups (also known as Ford Cups or Viscosity Cups) is carried out to ensure reliable measurement of kinematic viscosity for paints, varnishes, lacquers, oils, and other Newtonian liquids. The calibrated cups are used to determine viscosity through efflux time of a known volume of liquid flowing under gravity through the orifice of the cup.

FARE Labs Pvt. Ltd. possesses the facilities for the calibration of Flow Cups which covers a viscosity measurement range of 10 mm²/s to 1200 mm²/s (centistokes). The calibration and measurement capability (CMC) of the method is 0.64 %, ensuring high accuracy and traceability. This range is sufficient to cover the majority of industrial products where viscosity determination by flow cup is required.

Calibration is performed using Newtonian standard reference liquids whose viscosities are traceable to National/International standards. The procedure follows IS 3944:1982 and relevant international guidelines such as ASTM D1200. The method establishes a correlation between flow time (seconds) and kinematic viscosity (mm²/s), which can later be used for unknown liquids.

  • The calibration certificate is issued in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements,
  • The calibration of Flow Cup/Ford Cup at FARE Labs provides a traceable and accurate viscosity measurement in the range 10 mm²/s to 1200 mm²/s (CMC: 0.64 %).
  • All reference liquids used are traceable to National/International Standards, ensuring measurement integrity.
  • Results are presented with uncertainty estimation as per NABL-141 guidelines.
